Our guide will show us Dunedin's famous heritage buildings, including the University of Otago which is the oldest University in New Zealand and we'll be able to take a picture of one of the most photographed buildings in the world: the Dunedin Railway Station. We can also climb up Baldwin Street with us which is the world's steepest street! We'll go to lookouts to see a beautiful view of Dunedin and the Otago Harbour. Travel by road along the scenic Otago Peninsula, seeing various species of wading birds in their natural habitats. Then take a guided tour at the Royal Albatross Centre, viewing the majestic Royal Albatross from an observatory in their natural environment. Go on a guided walking tour at Penguin Place to see and learn about the Yellow Eyed Penguin, the most endangered in the world, found only on the south east coast of New Zealand. A short bus trip over the farm takes us to the reserve. While in the reserve our guide will lead us through a unique system of covered trenches into viewing hides; allowing access to the living areas and breeding grounds of this shy penguin. We will continue our tour to the tip of the Otago Peninsula for a One Hour Wildlife Cruise aboard the M.V.Monarch. Enjoy unrivalled wildlife viewing. See what cannot be seen from the land: Albatross, New Zealand Fur Seals and up to 20 species of bird and marine life in their undisturbed and otherwise inaccessible environment. This evening will engage us in a wonderful experience at the Tamaki Maori Village. The host tribe will send out a toa (warrior) who will challenge the guests, via their elected chief to ascertain if they come in peace. A Teka (peace offering) is placed and received by one of the visiting chiefs. At the Village, the Karanga, or "welcome call", will echo across the courtyard, followed by the Powhiri (welcome dance). We will then enter onto the village grounds where the Tangata Whenua (people of the land) will demonstrate different activities such as poi twirling, hand games, weaponry displays, reciting chants and displaying activities of an era gone by. We will enjoy a succulent Hangi feast. The evening ends with the Poroporoaki, the official closing ceremony.

Uluru Sunrise Tour

Uluru Sunrise Tour

We will rise early this morning to travel to the Uluru sunrise viewing area, Talinguru Nyakunytjaku. Watch the first rays of the sun set the Red Centre alight while enjoying a warming cup of tea or coffee and biscuits. After watching the sunrise we will join our AAT Kings Driver Guide for a tour around the base of Uluru. We will travel by coach to the Mutitjulu Walk where we will be escorted to the beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole to view Aboriginal rock paintings and learn about the area as our Driver Guide indicates some native flora and explains the Aboriginal and European history of Uluru. We'll visit the Uluru, Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre, to learn about Aboriginal culture and see Aboriginal arts and crafts, before returning to Ayers Rock Resort. On days when the Uluru Climb is open, those with a good level of fitness will have the opportunity to climb Uluru as an alternative to the Uluru Base Tour.
