Half Day Snorkel Trip to Hol Chan Marine Reserve & Shark Ray Alley

Half Day Snorkel Trip to Hol Chan Marine Reserve & Shark Ray Alley

Hol Chan means little channel in Mayan and is a natural break on the barrier reef where ocean depth ranges from three to thirty feet. Here we will enjoy seeing the breathtaking myriad of marine life and huge coral garden, among which are flourishing stag horn corals and sea fans. Shark Ray Alley is a shallow water snorkel where we will enjoy swimming with the harmless nurse sharks and southern stingrays. This sanctuary was officially established in 1987 and since then the return of all species of fish has been quite dramatic. Due to its protected status, what was once a depleted fishing area has now been allowed to re-generate, producing a quite colorful fish spectacle.

Lamanai Ruins by Boat

Lamanai Ruins by Boat

This is the Highway to Tower Hill. Here, we will once again board another boat that will take us down the winding New River Lagoon for forty-five minutes where Belizean wildlife at its best comes alive. We will encounter the many species of birds, monkeys, crocodiles, interesting plant life, and culture as we pass the Amish and Mestizo communities along the way. Once at Lamanai, lunch is served along with sodas, beers, and rum punch. Lamanai, also translated to submerged crocodile, is dated a pre-classic structure in the Mundo Maya. This is the only Maya site in Belize that has its own private museum, where all the artifacts found by the archaeologist, Pendergast and his team, are kept. Our experienced tour guide also provides a detailed and informative briefing on all of the artifacts. The tour covers approximately five to eight of the Lamanai Maya Temples. While touring this site, huge masks depicting dead rulers and gods seem to materialize out of the rainforest amid the chatter of bird life and the haunting call of the Howler monkeys. Our guide will point out the Copal and Raman trees, which were of great importance in ancient times. After a completely once in a lifetime experience, a leisurely journey back will retire our day.

Blancaneaux Tree Top Jungle Lodge

Blancaneaux Tree Top Jungle Lodge

In the early 1980s, Francis Ford Coppola visited Belize, immediately fell in love with the location, and purchased the abandoned Blancaneaux Lodge. For more than a decade the resort was used as a family retreat before Francis opened his tropical paradise to the public in 1993. Tucked away in a pocket of the Maya Mountains, Blancaneaux Lodge is a 20-room luxury resort hotel in Belize where waterfalls tumble into turquoise pools above the jungle canopy. Its remote mountain setting makes it a perfect place to relax, rejuvenate and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.
