We will enjoy a leisurely visit to the World Heritage Sites including Tenryu-ji Temple, Bamboo Grove and Arashiyama. We will try our hand at sutra copying in Daikaku-ji Temple where we can also appreciate ancient architecture and experience writing some Japanese characters. For lunch, we will have a Buddhist vegetarian meal inside the Tenryu-ji Temple grounds. We will then visit the Matsunoo Taisha Shrine, one of the oldest shrines in Kyoto. It is said that the guardian deity of sake is enshrined here.

Nara, like Kyoto, is a former capital of Japan, and preserves impressive buildings originally erected in the Nara period between 710 - 784 AD. We will visit the Todaiji Temple, which has the world's largest bronze statue, the Great Statue of Buddha. At a height of 14.98, the statue took nearly 10 years to construct with over 3,000 metal plates. We will then visit Nara Park, an iconic site where over 1200 wild deer freely roam. The deer are considered sacred messengers of Shinto gods according to a local folklore. Continue to Kasuga Grand Shrine, where we can study the thousands of stone lanterns that line the path to this serene shrine hidden in the woods. The last stop is at Nara's biggest souvenir shop, Nara Nagomikan.

Standing in stark contrast to modern, bustling Tokyo is the Emperor's Palace situated on 250 acres of landscaped grounds. The Tokyo Tower affords splendid views of the city. Meiji Shrine and Ueno Park are two other important sites. Ueno Park is a colossal cultural complex that includes shrines, temples, the Arts Academy, Tokyo University of Arts, the National Science Museum, the Museum of Western Art and the zoo. During the month of May, over 1 000 varieties of flowers burst into bloom in the Iris Garden. The Ginza district is renowned for entertainment and excitement.

We will be transported via train all over Japan. From Tokyo to Kyoto and Kyoto to Nara, we will be covering hundreds, if not thousands, of miles via train!

We plan on taking in as much of the city as we can! Entertainment will help us to enjoy the simple pleasures of traveling abroad and time with one another.

Hotel Keihan Kyoto Grande is centrally situated, only 1 km from the city center where guests are well located to enjoy the town's attractions and activities. This modern hotel is in the vicinity of popular city attractions such as Avanti, Isetan Department Store and Kyoto Tower.

It's casual, fun and perfect for an afternoon lunch. With so many restaurants in town, we'll choose the most perfect, casual restaurant where we'll take delight in the juiciest burgers, fresh sandwiches, chicken and fries!
