This is one of ConnectOcean’s flagship projects, which won in early 2020 the 1st prize with the UN’s Reboot the Ocean initiative. After setting out from Playa Flamingo with fishermen who have been working the waters of Guanacaste for generations, we will learn about sustainable fishing and traditional handline methods. These historical techniques make it possible for fishermen, suppliers, conservationists, and consumers to work together to catch and cook ocean-to-table fish that are sustainably sourced, support the local coastal communities, and are as fresh as possible.We’ll take your catch to the beachside restaurant Estero Azul, where you and an anthropologist-chef will prepare a meal reflecting pre-Hispanic culinary styles.

Spend a day exploring the scenic and unique landscape and topography of the Río Perdido property, in inland Guanacaste. This volcanic area contains a natural thermal river that stuns with its hues of blue and emerald green.While there are hundreds of zip-lining tours throughout Costa Rica, the canyon adventure at Río Perdido is truly innovative. Created under the guidance of renowned adventure designers, it is sure to please and surprise. The inspiring Río Blanco canyon is the main stage for a thrilling cable-based sequence, which includes 15 platforms (6 of them rock-based, 9 of them suspended on the canyon walls), a pendulum cable, a 50-foot Tarzan swing, a 90-foot challenge bridge, four via ferratas (climbing routes built with a fixed steel cable) with lengths varying from 15 to over 30 feet, and five zip lines with lengths varying from 260 to over 800 feet.

Take a small boat upstream into the mangroves and canals of Las Baulas National Marine Park. Mangrove forests are some of the most important coastal ecosystems. Among other roles, they serve as natural nurseries and protected areas for marine life, birds, monkeys, crocodiles, and other creatures. The trip lasts approximately 3 hours. Time of departure depends on the tide.

Take a trip to a secluded and magical place surrounded by the lush Costa Rican rainforest, on the slopes of the active Rincón de la Vieja volcano. Follow an easy walking trail through the tropical woodland that leads to four waterfalls. Wade in the remarkable “blue lagoon,” whose spring water comes directly from the volcano and is naturally tinted an electric turquoise.During the farm visit, taste delicious homemade cheeses, traditional tortillas, and Costa Rican coffee. Spend time at the milking station or observe the donkeys, goats, sheep, horses, pigs, chickens, turkeys, and ducks. Finish the day with lunch at a beautiful restaurant nestled in the middle of the jungle, beside the lagoon.

Just before sunset, step out onto Playa Danta for a barbecue with family and friends. As evening descends, our chef cooks fresh seafood, meats, and vegetables on the grill. Dine on a combination of beach classics and seasonal creations at a long table right on the beach, by the light of tiki torches. A gentle breeze comes off the ocean while you share a memorable night under the starry Guanacaste sky.

Put the perfect finishing touch on a day in Las Catalinas with a sunset dinner for two, cooked in an open-air, wood-fire kitchen and served to the sound of the waves on Playa Danta. Seasonal, locally sourced ingredients from land and sea define the freshly prepared menu, along with paired artisanal cheeses and wines. Handcrafted desserts round out a truly memorable meal fit for any occasion.

We will enjoy dinner at the beach on beautiful evening with a chef preparing an amazing meal.

Let a culinary expert grace our dining room table with a seasonal meal that focuses on locally sourced and sustainably produced ingredients. The customizable menu includes appetizers, salads, side dishes, entrées, and dessert.

Our next picnic is easy, whether we spread out on a sandy beach or a scenic hilltop. The resort will gather simple hand foods to enjoy as we spend time in nature with family and friends. The customizable menu includes artisan sandwiches, sides, and snacks in the afternoon, or charcuterie, cheeses, and bubbles at sunset.

Set up a taco station in our room and build our own. Choose from proteins that include blackened mahi-mahi and skirt-steak fajitas; sauces like salsa verde and romesco with smoked sweet bell peppers; and toppings such as pickled onions and pico de gallo. Flour and corn tortillas are provided for us.
