From downtown Reykjavik we’ll take a drive to Leidarendi cave, a perfect example of lava tube geology. We’ll go by foot and sometimes crawl through frozen formations, small stalagmites and stalactites, and icicles of all shapes and sizes. We’ll finally have a use for our headlamps!

We can’t wait to experience this world famous giant therapeutic hot pond. It is almost a must that we soak in the powder blue geothermal seawater when in Iceland.

We’ll be on the lookout for minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, humpbacks and giant blues, as our boat jostles for space in Húsavík’s intimate harbor. After an unforgettable day on the water we’ll visit the Whale Museum and have a brew at one of the harbor's bars and cafés.

After we get outfitted with all the necessary gear, we will discover the glacial depths of one of Iceland’s best diving spots, the Silfra Fissure. During this guided snorkel tour we will experience the volcanic fields of Thingvellir National Park and swim between continents between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.

We’ll visit the magical iceberg lagoon and black beach, Jokulsarlon, where 1000-year old icebergs combine with a black volcanic beach that is covered in translucent blocks of ice that appear like massive diamonds on the surface. We can stop by the Seljalandsfoss waterfall and take a boat ride in the lagoon.

One of the best Iceland tours is the Golden Circle Full Day Tour, where we will experience the Kerid Crater. We’ll see towering waterfalls, Thingvellir National Park, bubbling turquoise geysers, and the Strokkur Waterspout all clustered around the Golden Circle.

Beginning in Reykjavik, we’ll drive to Thingvellir National Park, Iceland's first national park. Here we witness the divergent drift of the American and Eurasian plates. The start of our hike will be in the Þjófahraun lava field, where the palagonite mountains and ridges have been formed by volcanic activity during the last glacial period. This 4-hour hike will take us to the summit of Mount Hrafnabjörg for stunning views.

The volcanic region of Landmannalaugar is covered with pumice stone and pitch-black lava and we will set out on a hike to the top of a nearby peak for a panoramic view of this isolated highland oasis, the Fjallabak Nature Reserve.

With a trusty guide who knows the country roads we will travel outside Reykjavik to the best viewing spots, hearing about the science of this unique natural phenomenon and its related Icelandic folklore.
