Join us for a three to four hour hike on Taveuni Island on a working 3,000 acre plantation called Vunivasa. Your adventure will begin with a ride atop a farm truck through the plantation and up into the mountain foothills where you will see and learn firsthand how copra (coconut), pineapples, yaqona (kava), cassava (tapioca), dalo (taro) is cultivated in Fiji. You will then find yourself on the top of a high ridge at the site of an ancient Fijian fort and village site with stunning views toward Qamea Island and a myriad of distant islands. You will then hike a well groomed trail down into a valley, across streams, and along a meandering river. On this hike you will also see the ruins of an ancient Fijian village, protection walls, and burial ground. Throughout the trail there are signs with historic information and photographs providednby the National Museum in Suva. At the end of the trail you will be pulled across the river in an "flying fox" - which is a pull chair, where you find a spectacular waterfall that will leave younspeechless. At the waterfall a picnic lunch will be served, and there will be plenty of time tonfurther explore the river valley, to swim below the falls, or to just relax and take in the magic of this South Pacific rainforest paradise. Throughout the tour your Fijian guide will teach you about the flora and fauna of the area as well as Fijian history. This tour receives the highest reviews by far from our guests.
