Three words: Love and Basketball! We met at our alma mater, Ole Miss. We were both playing pickup one afternoon at Ole Miss' recreational center (Turner Center). At this point, we had never spoken with one another. We both somehow ended up at the gatorade vending machine. I was too tired to stand, so I sat on the floor while he took FOREVER getting the last gatorade. So, he turns to me, smiling, and says, "You can have some of mine." I know, he coud've did better than that! But, it worked! All the while I'm thinking, I don't know this guy from Adam, but I sure am thirsty! So, I opened my mouth to pour the gatorade in, because I didn't know this guy or where his lips had been. Well, while I'm trying not to let the bottle touch my lip, he slides down on the floor beside me. We talked for about 2 hours, sweating, stinking, and exhausted. We laughed about EVERYTHING, like we had known each other for years. My friend Tia was waiting on me to take her to class, so she yells, "Girl, come on! I know you are not talking to J-Smith! He ain't nobody!" I laughed and got up. He jumped up and asked me for my number. I'm thinking yea right, but I give it to him. He didn't have a cellphone at that time, and had nothing to write it on. After giving it to him, I said, "You're not going to call me. How are you gonna remember it if you don't write it down??" He says, "Oh, I'll remember it..." And he did. And he called me at that very same time that next day.......and the rest is history!
How We Got Engaged:
I was working on Ole Miss' campusand doing my off-season training. He also usually trained literally ALL DAY! So, I come home from work, tired and dreading doing our evening workout. As soon as I walk in the door, I see him lying on the couch. He whispers, "Baby, can you please go get me an ice cup out of the freezer?" Now, I'm thinking, D%#!, can a sister just sit down for a second? I went and opened the freezer without looking in it, preparing to snatch it out and slam the door. Well, it wasn't where it should've been, so when I open the door wider and look in, there's this ring box sitting there. Sweet!!!
The theme for our wedding is "The Hollywood Premier of Mr. & Mrs. Smith." So, break out your ballroom best! Anyone who knows me, knows that I couldn't have had it any other way!
