The day before the engagement, we went to visit my grandparents to help get decorations for a birthday they were hosting on May 1 (for my aunt and cousin). I was getting tired and did NOT want to go to another to get one last item, so I offered to pick it up myself the following morning. Grandma told me, "But Robbie said y'all would be late tomorrow?" I didn't think much of it and even suggested Robbie and I drive separately to the party so he can do whatever he needed to, and I wouldn't be late!
Robbie's response to what happened sounded like he gave up and grandma gave away the proposal plans! He finally told me he would do it in Old Town, but before we would go we needed to save a campsite for his family.
THE DAY OF we left a little later than planned, and I insisted we skipped going to the campsite and straight to Old Town! (His family can call the campsite themselves). Robbie insisted we go to the campsite anyways, but accidentally gave away information that his mom was already on her way there. Why would we still go if his mom was already on the way?! Then it clicked! It was happening now, NOT in Old Town!
We pulled up (his mom and sister had not fully finished setting up) and we saw them running through the woods 😆 We went for a walk on the trail and came to a picnic table set up so beautifully with a handstiches tablecloth from Afghanistan, and old picnic basket from his grandmother, and a spread of fruits and sweets! 😍
I made notice of some stranger taking a picture of the setup, but thought nothing of it. However she was there to gather pictures and videos of the proposal! He had me sit at the table, gave a sweet speech, and gave me a ring with the diamond given to him from MY grandma! 🥰😭
OF COURSE I SAID YES!! His mom and sister were hiding nearby, congratulated us, and left. We enjoyed the spread, and fed some baby ducks down at the lake!
It was small, private, personal, and perfect 👩❤️👨
