Our Story
Mack Floyd, Jr. and I met at The French Quarter Restaurant 14 years ago on my Birthday, January 7, 1996! I had been stood up and, my daughter Yaneese had rented a car for the week-end so Yaneese, Bonnie, one of my best friends ever and I went out on a "Waiting to Exhale" girls night out.
Mack said he was just free that night and had stopped in the club just to see what was up. We sat in the far corner and out of the corner of my eye, I saw him approach our table. Thinking he was just passing by I was a little surprised when he stopped and held out his hand and asked me to dance. After making a vow with my girls an hour before to, "diss all the men” and “have our own fun" I held out my hand and said "of course" ...Huh ???? When we danced I looked over my shoulder to my girls and EXHALED just like in the movie we had just seen a couple of days before. The rest is history.
We went to dinner, we traveled, we raised the grandkids and most important we loved each other through it all for 14 years. I was a single grandmother raising my 5 year old grandson who had been with me since he was 14 months old and Mack was single with grown sons. Mack played a big part in helping raise all my grandkids. He inspired my granddaughter to explore her talent for art, and he supports my baby granddaughter’s passion for cheerleading. Mack raised my grandson like his own son as he shared his love for the outdoors by teaching him fishing, boating, and the outdoors life. He was a strong male figure in my grandson’s life and I love Mack that much more for this. Mack and I did all this and dated while living apart.
So, one day Mack comes up to the office where I worked for 15 years, followed by my co-workers and says: "Try this on"...It was the most beautiful ring I had ever seen, I was floored! In all our years we had never seriously discussed marriage. I was so busy getting my grandson through high school and proud to say he is now in college. Well, now it is our turn and he wants the works – the whole fairytale and we deserve it!! We are having a real wedding on May 1st and our grandson will be the "father of the bride and the best man”! We will retire together.."grow old along with me the best is yet to be" Robert Browning (1812-1889)
