We were really excited to attend the CT Wine Festival at Bishop's Orchard that day. My first mistake was telling Mike there was going to be a corn maze. I was wrong.
We couldn't have asked for better weather. Some of our good friends were coming with us, and we didn't waste anytime sampling all the wine we could. As we were walking around I felt this strange sensation in my hip. Like someone punched me with a thumb tack. I ignored it, that was my second mistake. When it kept happening I grabbed my hip and felt something frantically buzzing. As I lifted my dress a yellow jacket came flying out. It stung me 12 times! As Mike tried to console me he asked "what can I do to make you feel better?", and I responded with "get me more wine". Of course we found a way around the "no open full bottle of wine" rule, because no bottle stayed open or full for long.
In no time we had a bag full of empty bottles and we were on a mission to find a corn maze. Little did I know Mike was planning on proposing in the maze. Of course we never found the nonexistent maze, so after getting some great food at The Place, we found ourselves at the Guilford Moring House just in time for sunset. We walked down to the rocks and in my inebriated state (third mistake) I had no clue no one was following us. We sat on the rocks and Mike turned to me asking "hey, want to go for a swim?", and I yell back "YEAH!". Then he said "hey, want to swim to that island?", and again I respond "YEAH!". And finally he turned and looked at me and said "hey, want to marry me?" and without thinking I screamed "YEAH!", the final and perfect mistake. That was when I saw the ring and immediately started crying as he slipped the ring on my hand.
I turned around and saw our friends standing above the rock line, the guys cheering and the girls with watery eyes. Everyone with a camera. It was incredible. |
The ceremony will be at the Westport Inn at 5:30 PM on August 16th, 2013.
If the weather is good (knock on wood) we will be outside on the small intimate lawn behind the building that is set back on the property. If the weather is not in our favor then the ceremony will be held in a second smaller ballroom with a large bay window.

Immediately following the ceremony (on site) will be the cocktail hour and reception from 6:00-11:00 PM.
As long as the weather is good the cocktail hour will also be outside, however if the the weather is unpleasant the cocktail hour will be in a room adjoining the ballroom that the reception will be held in.
The ballroom that the reception will be in has a remarkable windowed wall. The room was originally where the pool was located and following renovations the Inn decided to keep the sun wall layout for some extra character.
Accommodations are available at a special rate for wedding guests. The Westport Inn can be contacted to reserve a room at our special rate by supplying our names and wedding date. Rooms are available at $129 and $199. The difference in the room pricing is the extra living space. The $199 rooms have an additional 30% more space, however both rooms can be reserved with either two double beds or a single queen. |
