Karen Baumgartner & Alfonso Guerrero
Location: Pasadena, California

Karen initially became acquainted with Alfonso thanks to film; her English teacher played a tape for her class that was created by a former class. The monster in the closet was played by Alfonso. She thought he was cute. The following year, they met in person at Azusa High. They attended Drama together and, despite Alfonso’s penchant for attending the local movie theatre in lieu of class, both graduated together and attended Pasadena City College.

While at PCC, Alfonso continued to study film and theatre. He received the James Bridges Award for Best Original Screenplay. He met his good friend John Vargas who convinced him to acquire a position at Samy’s Camera as a video technician. John went on to become a stand up comic and - although Alfonso briefly performed stand up - he has since begun his business. Based out of Los Angeles, Red Fish Productions specializes in photography and screenwriting. The first Tournament of Roses Post Parade Podcast was written by Alfonso and made available on both iTunes and Amazon in 2008. He has completed his first feature length script, The Death of Iggy and Clover. He is now working on his second feature length script based on the events of the Port Chicago Disaster.

Karen received an AS from PCC and is working on a BS from CSU Bakersfield. She received her Adv. Wilderness Rescue from UCLA and her Project Mgmt. Cert. from Caltech. Karen is a staff member at Caltech’s Safety Dept. In her spare time, she is a member (“white suiter”) for the Tournament of Roses – this year she is Capt. of Media for the Post Parade Committee. She is a member of the Health Physics Society, as well as both the Northern and Southern California Chapters. Karen just began her term as Asst. Area Governor for Toastmasters Int’l and serves as VP of Education for the Caltech Club. She is also a UN Volunteer and contributes to Heifer Int’l. Her hobbies include genealogy, traveling, and swimming or SCUBA diving.

Although they’ve known each other for 16 years, they had only begun dating in Oct. of 2006. He suggested to her that they should pencil in some time for Hawaiian pizza. She finally agreed.
