How we met....It was April 4, 2002 on a bus trip to the Blacks in Wax museum in Baltimore. Marquis decided to sit next to me because I was "cute". The conversation was good and we found out for a short time period, we lived on the same street as children. He was full of jokes. The complete opposite of my demeanor. We didn't talk that much after reaching our destination. But he was comfortable enough to fall asleep on my shoulder on the way home. When we returned, Marquis invited me to his church and I agreed. Everything happens for a reason. Marquis was the angel that brought me back to church.

How we got engaged...Five and a half long years later on November 11, 2007 we attended worship service at "The Mount" as we normally do. When our pastor got on the pulpit this Sunday, he called Marquis and I (who he referred to as Q's fiancee') to the alter. Little did I know he was speaking that in to existence. Pastor sowed the offering seed in to us to have dinner at Ruth Chris. It was one of those Sundays where the Holy Spirit was moving dramatically through the building. In the middle of service, the doors of the church were opened, and we rededicated our lives to Christ. In the hall on our way back to the sanctuary, Marquis had this big smile on his face. I asked him “what is it”. He paused, smiled some more, and he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him. Well, of course I said YES! Otherwise, I wouldn’t be sharing this story with you all. We hugged and kissed and started our new roles as fiance and fiancee. That's our story. We got engaged at The Mount. The place where he invited me the day we met. The place where we rededicated our lives to Christ. The place that keeps us grounded and growing in the Lord.

The future Mr. and Mrs. Marquis O. Alston will host their wedding at Mount Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church (The Mount) on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 3:00 pm.
