We first met at the Homecoming bonfire at UC Davis on 10/22/98. Joe was on the college football team, and Lisa was there with one of her sorority sisters, who was dating a friend of Joe's on the team. They introduced us and we went out on a few dates, but neither of us were really interested in being part of a serious relationship at that time. So, we remained "just friends" and stayed in touch for the next few years, hanging out, talking, and going to dinner and movies together. We began dating more seriously in '03, finally realizing (and admitting to ourselves!) that we love being together and wondering why it took us so long to figure that out. To Lisa's great surprise, Joe proposed at a romantic restaurant in the Napa Valley on 10/22/05, seven years from the day we met.
Our ceremony will take place on the grounds of Del Paso Country Club. There is plenty of parking right as you drive in the main club entrance. Signs and or ushers will direct you from the front of the club to the ceremony site. It will most likely be very hot on the day of the wedding, so guests may wait in the shade until they are ushered to their seats when it is time for the ceremony to begin. Don't worry- it should be short and sweet!
Our reception will take place right after the ceremony inside the main dining room of the club. Dress is formal, which means men should wear a suit and tie and women should wear a dress or pants suit. A cocktail hour will be followed by dinner and dancing. There will also be some of the traditional reception events such as wedding party speeches, the cutting of the cake, and the garter and bouquet toss.
Out-of-town guests should plan to fly in to the Sacramento airport. We have arranged for discounted hotel accommodations at the DoubleTree hotel in Sacramento. In April 2005, we were lucky enough to buy our first house in Rocklin, CA. For the past year, we have focused our time, energy, and resources into creating a nice home for ourselves that we will enjoy living in for years to come. We are really looking forward to our honeymoon in Hawaii (a 7 day cruise among all the islands!) because it will be a much needed chance to relax, and will be the very first trip we've ever taken together. We are even more excited about our upcoming wedding, because we will get to share it with all the friends and family we care about so much but do not get to see often enough.
