Sherri Mulhaney & Michael Droege
Our Story
Sherri and I both work in Real Estate for Prudential Jack White/Vista. Our company is not huge, but at the time we met there were about 400 associates working for Prudential in Anchorage, Eagle River and Wasilla.
Her sister, Tammy worked for Wells Fargo home mortgage and I had the occasion to have lunch with her and one of her associates. Tammy and I met at that lunch appointment. As she and her co-worker pitched me their mortgage products, she asked if I knew her sister adding that she worked for Prudential Jack White/Vista too. "Who is your sister" I asked? "Sherri Mulhaney" she replied. "No, I have seen her picture on her Prudential profile and on some listings, but I have never met her".
Six months later I decided to attend the Prudential's National Convention in San Diego. I was traveling with Rob Janssen. After a long flight, we got checked into the hotel and decided to go up to the pool and have a beer or two and wind down before our company dinner that night. As we hit the pool deck, we were greeted by the Wasilla contingent.....
And there she was....Sherri Mulhaney....a dark haired beauty in a white bikini and white glamor glasses. She was all tanned up and glistening in the afternoon sun. Stunning! I pretended not to notice as I sipped on my beer and talked to a client on the cell phone. But...Oh My! She looked much better in person than in the black and white pictures at the bottom of the MLS pages.
All of the Prudential crew that was there that night headed up to a famous local Mexican joint. The food was good and the company was too. All of us spent a few really great days in a great city. We studied, went to classes and seminars all day and then danced and sang and had fun all night. Kinda the "de rigeur" of convention. Nothing is quiet as fun as St, Patrick's day in the Gas Lamp District in San Diego. Who would have guessed?
Several months later, Sherri and I began dating and four years later here we are.
Sherri was born and raised in Wasilla and I was born and raised in Anchorage. In all our years in Alaska, we had never met. Even though we were both in real estate and employed by the same company and our paths had probably crossed a hundred times.
I traveled to Southern California to become a more effective in my business and unwind a little. I came away with all of that and so much more. It seems ironic that we met each other 3000 miles away. I ended up finding something so precious and someone so special in San Diego, California, when all my life she was just up the road.
