Last year Trey planned a surprise trip for us to Portland, Oregon. He brought his idea to Little Trey and they spent time researching attractions in Oregon. They were immediately attracted to Oregon's hiking trails; specifically the Oneonta Gorge located in the Columbia River Gorge. This was the place he originally planned to propose.
On June 5, 2016, we left for Portland, Oregon. Once we settled in our rental, we started researching the nearby hiking trails. On our second day we hiked our first trail, the Wahclella Falls. It was very family friendly and the falls were gorgeous. Neither one of us Kansans had experienced a waterfall before.
On our third day, June 8, 2016, we thought we were experts and set out to hike three different trails. Our first hike of the day was the Oneonta Gorge. It was very rocky and there was a huge log jam we had to climb over to get down to the falls. After all the work it took to get to the waterfall, Trey decided it wasn't the place he wanted to propose.
Next, we visited the nearby Multnomah Falls and spent some time taking pictures and eating ice cream. We ended our day at the Latourell Falls. This hike was a two mile loop trial. Once we reached the lower falls there was bridge across the base. Trey suggested we take a picture on the bridge. He asked another hiker to take the picture of us. As I was turned trying to get Little Trey to face the camera, I felt Trey poke me on my side. I turned around to see what he wanted and he was knelt on one knee holding an opened ring box in his hand. The moments that followed are a blur. I was shocked!
Here we are now, a year later, planning the wedding and honeymoon of our dreams! |
