We want to thank each of you for taking the time out of your busy lives to celebrate our marriage with us. It’s also a great place to spend your summer vacation, so stay as long or a short a time as will suit your needs. We’ll have a Welcome Get-Together on the evening of Thursday, 8/27 and a beach day at The Crane Resort on Saturday, 8/29 (details to be announced later).
AIR TRAVEL: Best fares for travel are Monday – Wednesday (Arrive Weds.8/26 and Depart Monday 8/31). The Barbados airport code is BGI. Airlines that fly to Barbados are JetBlue, American, US Airways and Delta.
Nonstop Flights: You can fly nonstop to Barbados from Atlanta (Delta – Thursdays and Saturdays only), Charlotte (US Airways), Miami (American), and New York–JFK (JetBlue and (Delta – Thursdays and Saturdays only).
Other Flights: American and US Airways have the same one stop flights from New York LaGuardia connecting in Miami. To maximize your time in Barbados, it's best to take the 6:00 am flight from LGA that connects in Miami at 9:55 am and arrives in Barbados at 1:47 pm. The return with one stop (not on Sundays) would be departing Barbados at 2:57 pm, connecting in Miami at 9:00 pm and arriving at LGA at 11:59 pm. The Sunday flights on American and US Airways have two connections and leave at 7:00 am. They connect through Tampa and DC before landing at LGA.
Check the different airlines for vacation packages. You can sometimes get a better deal on flights and hotel if the two are bundled in a package rather than booked separately.
RECOMMENDED ACCOMMODATIONS
There are many lovely accommodations in Barbados for all budgets. Gino and I enjoy the area of St. Lawrence Gap. It's lively with many restaurants and bars. The thing to look out for is noise. Bars stay open until 3:00 - 4:00 am, so if you want to avoid some of the party noise choose your hotel wisely. A few hotels to consider are:
Yellow Bird Hotel: http://www.yellowbirdbarbados.com/
*Preferred hotel of Grace Jones, Mother of the Bride. The Yellow Bird is newly renovated boutique hotel. Rooms range from Ocean Front Studios to Deluxe Two Bedroom Suites. There is a small pool and the rooms overlook the ocean. The beach area across from the hotel doesn't have lounge chairs, etc, but there ia a lovely beach in walking distance across from Divi Southwinds Beach Resort. The Yellow Bird has bars and restaurants on either side, so occasionally there is some late night noise. Yellow Bird is running a special right now: 20% off all Studios and Suites for travel dates: August 15th - December 15, 2015. Minimum stay: 3 Nights.
Infinity on the Beach: http://www.infinityonthebeach.com/
Infinity is located on Dover Beach also in St. Lawrence Gap. There are two sections to the hotel: Landside and Oceanside. The two sides are separated by "The Gap" which is basically a one lane road. Room categories range from Standard Pool View on the landside to Depluxe Penthouse Suite on the oceanside. Not all rooms have kitchenettes, so if you want one, make sure to confirm with hotel which room categories have kitchenettes. Reviews say Oceanside rooms are quieter.
The Crane Resort: http://www.thecrane.com
Experience the luxury and seclusion of The Crane Resort on the Atlantic side of Barbados where the wedding ceremony and reception will be held. If you are looking for a place where you can get away from it all, relax in the sun, sand and sea, The Crane is the ideal tropical paradise resort. The Crane offers many room categories that range from The Historic Residence which is the original hotel to Three Bedroom units with pools.
