For the past 20 years, Evan and his family have gone to Sunset Beach, North Carolina for vacation. I was lucky enough to be able to go with them last year and it was magical. The house... the beach... the island. Everything!! Once we arrived, we decided to show Nick's girlfriend the island since it was her first time there. They wanted to walk to the Kindred Spirit Mailbox, which is where visitors have used communal notebooks in the mailbox to express their hopes and thoughts for over 30 years. Evan, who had never visited the mailbox, and I walked there last year and I wrote my letter to the Kindred Spirit. It is a gorgeous spot on top of a sand dune with a bench overlooking the ocean.

We got about 15-20 minutes down the beach and Evan started kissing me. It was very sweet and romantic. I noticed Evan messing with his pockets, but I didn't think anything of it. I asked him why and the next thing I knew, he was down on one knee asking me to marry him. Obviously, I said yes because here I am writing the story of our proposal! There were lots of happy tears shed. The ring is aboslutely gorgeous. The diamond was his grandmother's from the 1920s and the setting was his great-grandmother's. He picked out the sapphires because he knows they are my favorite. His whole family is wonderful and I feel very blessed to become a part of it. Like I said... I knew Sunset Beach was magical!
