My dream wedding came true in the tropcial paradise of Tulum, Mexico. Some people thought we were crazy not having anything arranged before getting there. We did try, but that isn't Mexico's style. It worked out better than I could have dreamed of. We were flexible, patient, and relaxed. We had faith that it would unfold like it was meant to without any expectations.
We had made official arrangements to get married on Friday, 11/6 at 5:00, but it didn't pan out that way. Due to tropical storms, our wedding was moved to Saturday Nov. 7 at 11:00. I guess other forces at work wanted us to be married on the 7th and not the 6th. In Mexico, we learned that you just go with the flow and not to worry. After 3 days of intense rain and winds, the clouds parted on Saturday morning and the sun smiled upon us. Instead of stressing about the rain, we surrendered to the meaning of rain which is all about fertility and life. Again, there is little stress in Mexico; so we dediced not to worry and kept the meaning of why we were there close to our hearts.
We got married at our favorite place in Tulum, called Playa Kin Hah. The owner Corina is such a wonderful lady. This place felt like home to us and we visited it daily. Corina makes the best margaritas, hummus, guacamole, and chips ever! Plus all the other foods she served was amazing. No one in town can compete with her margaritas, seriously. Anyway, Corina helped coordinated the wedding and made sure everything went smoothly.
We had a Chilean Shaman Priestess perform our wedding. She literated flew into town the day prior to our wedding. We were so fortunate to have her give the ceremony. She had a positive, fun, and powerful feminine energy about her. She brought her sweet and soft spoken assist to help translate as well.
To initiate the Mayan Ceremony, the Priestess walked to the edge of the shoreline and blew into her conch shell. She was calling in the spirits to particapate in our ceremony. It literally gave me goosebumps, because I could feel the power and the signifance for what was about to happen.
There was an altar prepared on the sand with varous colors of flowers and foods. The smell and smoke of copal filled the air. Copal is the resin of a particular tree sap, which is the Mayan's version of sage. The burning of copal helps to cleanse the space of negative energies and to raise the vibration.
To begin the ceremony, we called upon all 7 directions (North, South, East, West, Earth, Heaven, and Center) asking permission for our matrimony. Then the Priestess cleansed our energy bodies with the copal. We went back to each direction and made wishes regarding what we wanted for our relationship together. Then we gathered our wedding rings and held them together. As we prayed with our rings, we focused on uniting our hearts and spirits together and connecting that love into our rings. This was a really magical moment realizing these rings hold the true essence of our eternal love. Our vows and tears came next with a kiss to seal the deal. We drank this red fruit juice to help take in our love internally and to celebrate with the directions. To finish the ceremony, we gathered all the foods and flowers into a large bowl. We walked into the ocean and together gave these offerings to the all directions sending love and gratitude for our love ceremony. It such an exilerating way to finalize our matrimony.
After the altar was removed, the Priestess drew a giant heart in the sand and placed a flower in it. Our symbol of love will be forever etched in the sand.
We want to give a special thanks to Corina for assisting in our dream wedding. Our dear friend Elyce, thank you for all your friendship, support, and great photography skills. Our Italian friend, (sorry I can't remember your name) taking additional photos and celebrating with us.
