 | When we were 14 years old, Jason played football for Pop Warner and I was a cheerleader for his team. I didn't know he had a crush on me until his teammates came and told me. They told me we rode the same bus to school and dared me to talk to him. The next day I saw Jason waiting for the bus and decided I wanted to say hi. So I followed him to the back of the bus, sat in the seat in front of him, turned around and asked, " Are you Jason Kelley?" He gave me a worried look and said "yeahhh?" And from there we became the best of friends! I didn't know he lived 5 houses behind mine! Everyday he would walk me home from the bus stop carrying my books. He was the only boy my mom allowed in the house when she wasn't home. We would sit at the coffee table, get out all the junk food we could to eat and do our homework together. Jason's dad worked for a company that would have family nights at Magic Mountain, and while Jason's brother would take about 5-6 of his guy friends every time, Jason would only invite me.
Jason always had a crush on me, but sadly, I always liked his friends...
I would ask him to do horrible things like call them to ask if they liked me too! Poor Jason..but through it all, he remained my best friend. I didn't know what I already had in him.
At 19 we dated for a short period of time, but the timing just wasn't right. Years went by (17 to be exact) and life went on for both of us. But apparently, fate would have us cross paths once again. We found out we lived very similar lives, just with different people and in different states. We also discovered that we never forgot each other and would think of the other from time to time. Jason says he searched for me for years and finally found me through good ol' Facebook! I had a different last name so he really had to do his research!
And so here we are, after all these years, back together again. Lots of fun memories and stories between us, lots of history, but most of all-lots of love between us that started blossoming 27 years ago. Gosh, it sounds like a movie, but it's real life! He calls me his "dream girl" because I'm the only girl he's ever wanted since he was 14. And I tell him he was always my "one that got away". It's amazing to me that I get to spend the rest of my life with someone who has loved me so much for so long! |
