Amy Camann & Tony Hackney
Location: Austin, Texas
Tony's perspective...Let me begin by saying I have never broken a bone in my life. I never would have imagined that my most painful experience would change the course of my life for the positive. Little did I know that a visit with the good doctor was also the "Love Doctor."
A sports injury (ultimate Frisbee) left me with nagging pain for 10 years. I couldn’t walk more than 3 blocks without sitting down. Tying my shoe and a good nights sleep were things of the past. I knew it was time, and I finally found the right Orthopedist to perform the hip replacement procedure. After the operation I was to have physical therapy. I chose a clinic out of the blue, and that’s where it all started. Amy was the supervisor of the clinic. I liked her style immediately, and although I never did my homework exercises (she said she knew, but I disagree), she had me up and going in no time. After I was discharged from therapy, I didn’t want to let the opportunity go by. I asked her out for a happy hour…and the rest is history. We had been dating for over a year, and a trip to Yosemite was in the works, so I knew that was where I wanted to propose.
On a beautiful morning bike ride with a vista overlooking the mountains, I asked her to be my bride. I knew it was a good fit, first marriage for both of us, similar outlook in life, and strong family ties. I really think the biggest challenge for me is living with a vegetarian, and for her, finding out I like to walk around barefoot all the time.
Amy’s perspective….the first time I met Tony I recall looking into the waiting area for my new patient and seeing a tan man in a cutoff t-shirt and shorts on crutches. I recall doing a double take at the chart because I worked in a geriatric, outpatient physical therapy clinic in a retirement facility and rarely did I ever see patients under the age of 50 and he was so young to have a hip replacement. I saw him a few times and yes, of course I knew he didn’t do his home program; however, he did progress quickly due mostly in part through the skills of my co-workers and me. After I discharged him, he would send me e-mails intimating invitations to a happy hour and I would redirect him to be compliant with his exercises to ensure a full recovery. He was persistent and after a call to my licensing board, I finally agreed. I had never dated a former patient! As for the proposal…I have some very wise, close friends who prophesized his proposal. Nonetheless, I was completely surprised when an early morning bike ride turned into so much more. He asked to stop on a ridge of the mountain and I remember thinking, he must need a break and I should probably drop the pace. No rest needed as he did propose, and how could I say no when he was wearing a 2007 Spurs Championship t-shirt in 40deg weather! Overlooking the Yosemite Valley, my mom gave her blessing and Tony became a part of our family.
The wedding ceremony is on Sunday, October 12th and guests should arrive at the Terrace Club at 5:30PM. The ceremony will start at 6PM and hopefully the reception will follow shortly!

In order to spend more time with everyone, we are planning to have a pre-wedding party on Saturday, October 11th on the shores of Lake Austin at Emma Long Park. It will begin around 2PM and last through until early evening. Food and games will be provided. Your only cost for attendance is an $8 donation to the City of Austin Parks and Recreation. Directions to the park are as follows: take loop 360 to FM 2222, turn onto City Park road and approximately 6 miles it ends into the park. The address is 1600 City Park Road Austin, TX 78730.

Our wedding will take place in Dripping Springs at the Terrace Club located just 20 minutes from downtown Austin. The ceremony will be held in the outdoor garden area overlooking the hill country and hopefully with a view of a Texas sunset. The reception will be indoors with a sit-down dinner. The attire will be more toward the formal side although anything dressier than blue jeans will do. The Terrace Club address is 2600 E. Highway 290 West Dripping Springs, TX 78620, phone number 512-894-4009 and website www.theterraceclub.com.
If you are coming from Austin the easiest way is to travel down Highway 290 West about 10 ½ miles from the Y at Oak Hill or 3 miles from the Nutty Brown Café. For those of you who are coming up from San Antonio, you have 3 options…traveling up I-35 to Austin to Highway 290 West/71 West, cutting over in Kyle or going up 281 North to Highway 290. If this doesn’t help you then please feel free to use Mapquest!
The reception will be held following the wedding at the Terrace Club. For dinner you can select your meal from a variety of table stations and enjoy the live music. Be prepared to help us celebrate the evening with dancing.
My brother, Brent Camann, is the contact person to reserve hotel accommodations. Please email him at brent.camann@marriott.com for more information.

For our out-of-town guests, you will most likely be flying into Austin-Bergstrom airport. We are working to secure accommodations at the group of Marriott hotels on IH-35 and Highway 71 located 6 miles from the airport and 19 miles from the Terrace Club. While you are visiting in Austin we recommend the following as some of our favorite restaurants: Chuy’s, Cannoli Joe’s, Magnolia Café, Kerbey Lane Café and P.F. Changs.
As we celebrate this most important time in our lives, we appreciate the love and support we have received from our family and friends. It has been quite a journey for us both, one that has been guided and shaped by those who mean the most to us. Thank you so much for sharing in this special moment in our lives. We look forward to celebrating with all of you in the near future. In lieu of the traditional gift registry, we have decided to create a honeymoon registry complete with the activities we hope to participate in on our cruise. Thank you for being a part of our celebration and making our dream honeymoon come true.
