| As many of you know, the man responsible for getting Jeremy to Virginia for me was Jeff Vittone, so thanks Jeff. :) Jeremy started at DSCR in July 2007, and the first time I saw him, I was just wandering through the intern center, minding my own business. I walked past a classroom, and my eyes caught a glimpse of a tall, dark, and very handsome man in a blue Jersey (little did I know, it was a Bills jersey). I did the classic movie thing...got caught staring and had to duck out of sight. Luckily, we were introduced shortly thereafter at Mulligan's on a Friday night in September. It was one of those nights you don't easily forget because after playing pool at Mulligan's, dancing at Pour House, and eating Taco Bell, we ended up on the couch talking for over 4 hours. I think I put "So I Married an Axe Murderer" in the DVD player, but we didn't see more than 10 minutes of it.
Although we were slow to make it official following many great dates, we were basically inseparable after that first night. Since then, we've had many firsts together. We visited our first winery together, and learned a lot of lessons, some easier than others. I visited my first Moose lodge and had my very first beef on weck (I don't know how I survived before). I exposed Jeremy to the wonders of house rentals in OBX. That first year was SO much fun!! We even went to Lincoln Financial field in Philadelphia, PA to see the Eagles (my team) and the Bills (Jeremy's team) fight it out for an 8-8 season. Of course, the Eagles won. :D It's a good thing, otherwise, he may not have gotten out of there alive.
We've had a lot of fun and adventures thus far, and we're looking forward to so many more. After the wedding and the Hawaiian honeymoon, we'll start planning for the next year's vacation...hopefully a small European vacation to France, Italy, and maybe Spain. I'll keep my fingers crossed!!
We purchased a home for ourselves this past May in Chesterfield, and we've been so blessed to have many of our family and friends join us here on numerous occassions. We only hope to have more visitors in the coming years.
Toast to the years to come... Jeremy and I are getting married at Amber Grove, 16216 Genito Rd., Moseley, Va. 23120 (http://www.ambergrove.com/). The wedding ceremony will take place on October 2, 2010 at 4:30 p.m. at the Gazebo (weather permitting). The reception will follow under a 40x60 tent with full floor to dance the night away.
For directions to Amber Grove, please visit the website above or just give us a call.
As many of you have never seen Amber Grove, we think you will appreciate the beauty of the area as much as we do upon arrival. The property is beautifully maintained with a quaint, yet elegant home.
The website contains a detailed history of the property. It includes history from 1850 when a settler named Vincent Markham migrated up Swift Creek and bought 350 acres of land including what is now Amber Grove. In 1884 after the original house was destroyed, Ambrose Goode built the current home and ran it as a farm for many years to follow. Finally in 1997, John McBride bought the property, added to the house, and began using it for social functions (http://www.ambergrove.com/History.html). If this isn't enough, you'll hear plenty more from John himself at the wedding. He is a charming man and a wealth of knowledge, and he's happy to share his stories with anyone who wants to listen.
It didn't take long for us to decide that this was the place once we saw it. The reception will be at Amber Grove at 5:30 p.m. directly following the wedding. It will be held under the 40x60 tent with all of the views the Inn has to offer. A DJ will be providing the music to keep the party going all night.
Hor D' Oeurves will consist of the normal fruit, vegetable, cheese, and cracker trays followed by scallops wrapped in bacon, and mushrooms stuffed with basil & parmeesan cheese.
The dinner will be served in a buffet style with a main buffet table, a mashed potato bar and two meat carving stations. The main table will consist of teriyaki chicken kabobs, asparagus wrapped in prosciutto, cocktail meatballs in a BBQ sauce, and hot crab dip with artichoke hearts & crostini. The two meat stations will consist of roast beef and smoked turkey breast.
Something tells me that nobody will go hungry. :)
We will also have an open beer/wine bar. The beer served will be Miller Lite, Yeugling, and Corona. There will be an assortment of red and white wines with a champagne toast. Coffee, tea, water and sodas will also be served. For those coming in from out of town, the closest airport to us and the wedding is the Richmond International Airport. We have blocked off rooms at the Holiday Inn Express nearest the wedding, just ask that the reservation be made under the "Prince/Dortch Wedding." The rooms are $119 a night. The number for the hotel is (804) 744-7303. The address for the hotel is 5030 West Village Green Drive, Midlothian, VA 23112.
