| We have been at sea (al mare) all today on our way back to Barcelona. We had another late night last night and slept in before finishing our time with the wedding photographer this morning. We enjoyed a light lunch and headed to the sun deck for some rest and relaxation. It has been a little windy at sea today and th ship has been moving around a lot, we decided to head back to the cabin for a quick nap before heading out to Chops Grill for a steak dinner. We to head back to the room after dinner and pack up our bags before 11pm to pick them up in port tomorrow morning. We're heading out for some late night drinks on our last night at sea before heading to bed. Our flight leaves tomorrow morning and we are heading back to Paris on Air France and then the long 8 hour flight from Paris to DC. We get in around 7:30 pm EST which will be 1:30 AM our time, so to bed early. We're excited to pickup Teddie and get him home. We've had an amazing time on the cruise and can't believe its almost over. We hope you enjoyed the updates and will most likely not post tomorrow being a full day of travel. Good Night! We arrived in our last port this morning around 7 am in Naples, Italy. We had a late night last night and decided to sleep in this morning and enjoy a late breakfast on the ship. We got a private taxi once off the ship that took us on an hour tour of the city. it was in the mid 90's in Naples with high humidity and we welcomed the air conditioned cab versus walking through the city. Naples is also a beautiful city, however much more of a port of trade. Our cab driver was just about as crazy as a NYC drivers. We we're happy to get out alive, our driver did speak a little English and provided a great tour and history of the city. We spent the afternoon doing some shopping in Naples, enjoying a fresh lemoncello Before heading back to the ship. We decided to head to the sun deck and catch some rays by the pool before heading to dinner tonight at the Mexican restaurant onboard. We leave Naples in about an hour before heading back to Barcelona Sunday morning. We loved the Italian cities we visited and the food was amazing. Goodbye Naples! We arrived in Civitavecchia, Italy this morning around 7 am. The port city is a quaint seaside city with a lot of trade ships entering and exiting. We booked a tour to Rome and took a bus for about an hour drive thought the Italian countryside. Rome was absolutely overwhelming! There was so much to see, it seemed like every turn you took there was another famous structure you learned about as a kid. We spent about 1.5 hours on a bus tour around the city and then finished with a 30 minute walking tour of the central city and Trevi fountain. the city was incredible and so old it was amazing to think how many people have walked on those streets. We found a restaurant and enjoyed some handmade pasta along with Italian Ice before making our way back to the bus, and of course we couldn't resist the Italian shops selling handmade men's clothing. We made it back to the ship around 6pm and enjoyed a light dinner and drinks. We watched the ship leave port again and the lights of the coastline disappeared and then only the black of the sea. We have a short trip down to Naples tomorrow and our excited to see the last port on the cruise before spending a full day in the Mediterranean on our way back to Barcelona. Having a great time and enjoying the sights, food and the ship! We got married! Our ceremony was last night at 7 pm on the solarium sun deck off the coast of France. We were not able to have it on the observation deck due to high winds. The weather last night wasn't the greatest and the top decks were closed to passengers. After the ceremony we spent the rest of the night enjoying champagne and cocktails on the ship. Having some technical difficulties uploading the video as it is a large file and the Internet on the ship is not extremely fast, we will try to get it posted for you to see. We arrived in the port of La Spezia, Italy early this morning and booked a bus tour to Florence. It was a short drive to the city and we drove through the Tuscan countryside and it was absolutely beautiful. We also passed through Carrara, Italy and saw the marble quarries on the side of the mountain where the popular Italian marble comes from. One in Florence, we had a walking tour of the city for several hours through the old Roman part of the city. Most of the areas we walked through we're built between 1100-1200 and were amazing. Florence has beautiful architecture and the setting on the Arno river along with the mountains has been our favorite city so far. After the walking tour we spent some time having lunch in a restaurant off Michelango Square and then back to the ship. We spent some time this evening having dinner and watching the ship leave port and head back out into the Mediterranean. Today was extremely hot and humid and looks like tomorrow will be even hotter, on our way to Rome and excited to share pictures tomorrow. We have another early morning including a bus tour, walking tour and free time in which we are hoping to go to the Vatican. We're having a great time and seems like the week is flying by. We arrived in Marselles, France this morning around 8 am. We got up a little earlier today, had breakfast and headed out to the port. We had to take a bus from the ship to the marina area of the city that took about 10 minutes but well worth it. Marseilles is a beautiful city with most buildings made from limestone with red roofs, and much bigger than we thought. You can definitely notice the difference between the 2 Spanish ports we've visited so far and Marseilles. We took a tour train around the city for about 2 hours and visited the Notre Dame de la Garde, which sits on the highest point of Marseiiles. I've added some pictures to see the view, it really is breathtaking. We're taking some time to relax this afternoon before our ceremony this evening. The weather in France is a bit cooler with less humidity with a great breeze coming off the sea. Our wedding planner is picking us up at 6:15 to head up to the observation deck to tie the knot. We leave port at 5:30 pm and are hoping we will be able to capture some of the coastline of Monaco and also the sunset on our way to Italy. We're having a blast so far but it feels like time is flying by! We arrived in Palma De Mallorca this morning in the Balearic Islands off Spain, our first port. We woke up this morning to late night room service that we don't remember eating, it must have been a good night! We had a late breakfast this morning before heading off the ship into the port of Mallorca. The city is much bigger than we expected and although part of Spain, the island was first settled by the Phoenicians and has a visible Greek influence. Today was HOT! and sunny and very humid. We spent about 2 hours in port walking through the port and Plaza de Palma. The afternoon was spent on the sun deck taking a siesta in the shade with several, and I do mean several, frozen cocktails. We are planning on having some NY style pizza this evening for dinner and will most likely spend some more time in the bars on the ship. We are on our way now to the south of France and are schedule to arrive in Marseilles tomorrow morning by 8 am. We're getting excited for our ceremony tomorrow and hopefully will be sober enough to post some pictures to share. We made it on the ship! The check-in, security and baggage process went really smooth, we headed to our honeymoon suite and got settled in, we were also able to see the ship leave Barcelona and then met with our wedding planner for final details. It looks like we are going to be able to post a video of the ceremony and be able to share with you. We've had some mojitos on the sun deck and our balcony while watching the sunset. We are scheduled for dinner at 8:45 and will most likely hit the bar afterwards. the ship is absolutey AMAZING, we've explored the promenade, Central Park and upper sun decks on the bow side of the boat, but still have to get to the areas on the stern. We are on our way to Palma de Mallorca and should arrive tomorrow morning. We did not book a shore excursion tomorrow, so will just be exploring on our own for a half day And hoping to get lots of pictures too!
We are having a blast so far in Barcelona! this is such a beautiful city. The weather has been overcast and VERY humid, we thought it was bad in DC, but nothing like this. We had a late light last night at a dance club and didn't get in until 5 am so needless to say we slept in. Today we spent some time shopping again in the Gothic Quater, we found out this neighborhood was built by the Romans and parts of the old city date back 2,000 years. We also spent some time in the main shopping district on "Passeig de Gracia" and a lite lunch. We spent the afternoon on the Barcelona City Tourbus for a 2.5 hour tour of the Plaza de Catalunya, Gothic Quartre, Port of Barcelona, Olympic City, Industrial Area, Olympic Village and Museum Row. We enjoyed a nice dinner at a restaurant "La Tramola" near our hotel and had some great charbroiled beef, paella and of course the best sangria we've had so far. We're excited to board the ship tomorrow and begin our cruise On the way to France and Italy. The locals here are VERY friendly and most can speak a little English. So far we have met people from France, UK, Ireland, Germany, Canada, North Africa, Serbia and Russia, this is definitely a party town and seems like many Europeans come for the beaches and nightlife as it is only a quick 2 hour flight for most. We hope your enjoying the blog, we havent decided if tonight will be a quiet night with some wine in our room or another late night, I love that Spaniards also drink wine at breakfast, we need to start doing this at home. Hope everyone is well. We'll check in tomorrow once we are at sea. Bon Voyage! Hi Everyone! We made it safely to Spain after a long flight. The weather has been partly cloudy in the high 70's. Our hotel is right in the middle of the city close to many areas of the city. We are staying in the Eixample neighborhood and reminds us of the village in NYC. So far we have walked A LOT. We've explored the gothic quarter, the port of Barcelona and the Cathedral of Barcelona. We've had some great tapas and sangria right next door to our hotel at an outdoor terrace, it was nice to relax at people watch on the busy street. Today is the National Festival Day holiday in Barcelona. many shops are closed and a lot of people in the streets. We've got some great pictures to share from our explorations so far, Barcelona is a beautiful city and very different from home. We hope to share a post daily. |
