"Our Past" begins when we were introduced by a mutual friend during the summer of 1993.
Our first date was on a Friday night at South Pointe Park, on Miami Beach where we attended one of the weekly live jazz music events. Things started out pretty normal. We had a pillow and blanket to sit on and purchased some food and drinks at the concession stands. Near the end of the show we walked out to the rocks at the edge of the inlet where we could talk better.
Having decided to continue the date at a different location, we ventured a little farther north on South Beach to Collins Avenue. After parking the car, I pulled a bottle of champagne from an ice filled cooler and we walked barefoot in the sand toward the water. When we came upon a lounge chair with no cushion we decided to sit and chat as we drank champagne from plastic cocktail glasses. After chatting and sharing our first kiss, we headed across the street to the Clevelander Hotel where we danced for a while. It was probably somewhere around three in the morning when we finally decided to call it a night, though I don't think either of us really wanted to. I drove Norma home to her apartment in south Miami, then headed off in the opposite direction to my place on the northern edge of the city.
After dating for a while, Norma returned to Chicago and I eventually went back to my home town of St. Augustine. Though we spoke on the phone a couple of times, we eventually lost all contact and knowlege of each others whereabouts.
But wait, there's more... |
