Almost from the moment we started dating, it seemed everyone assumed we would be getting married one day. I know it didn't take me long to start thinking that as well. Like most of our relationship, the propsoal was not "normal". We looked at rings together prior to the proposal. Though we looked together, I was supposed to make the choice of a ring later after figuring out what we liked. It didn't turn out that way, as the moment she saw the ring, we both knew that was it. I was left with only finding a perfect diamond to go in the ring. As we waited on the ring to arrive (I'm not sure she even knew that I had picked the diamond and completed the purchase/order of the ring), the moment of perfection to propose was presented, but I didn't have the ring yet (still being "built"). So I did the most unusual thing ever - I took a plastic ring sizer and taped a picture of her ring to it to create a quite silly, but very represntative, stand-in for the ring. I proposed with this at the only place she had even considered for the wedding, a beautiful mountain overlook. She said "of course I will" and laughed at my "ring" as I'd hoped she would. It wasn't close to "normal", but it was perfect. It was "us". |
