Bride

At the beginning of January, Jed had been talking about wanting to get away for the weekend. He had said he just needed a break from work and wanted to do a getaway weekend. He mentioned wanting to go to Wintergreen because we had stayed there back in October and the place we stayed had such a beautiful view! Unfortunately, the weekends that we were able to go did not coincide with the availability with the dates of the place where we wanted to stay. The only weekend that would work for us was towards the end of February and Jed said that was too long to wait. After that I just sort of left it alone and figured it wasn't that big of a deal. He obviously had a different opinion and took matters into his hands.

A few days had passed by and Jed tells me that he has found a place for us to stay and asked if I could leave work early on Friday, January 27th. I told him that it shouldn't be a problem and I asked him where we were going. He told him that it was now a surprise and he wasn't going to tell me where we were going. I didn't really think much about it and thought that it was kind of cool that he was keeping it a secret! He was keeping it such a secret that anytime he would look at his phone he would turn it away from me. I also wasn't allowed to check the mail while he was away for work nor was I allowed to look in the center console of the truck. When I was told I wasn't allowed to check the mail or look in the center console of the truck, I started getting suspicious.

As most people are, when someone tells you that you can't do something, you instantly want to do it. Checking the mail wasn't that hard for me not to do because it was cold outside and I don't like getting out in the cold to check the mail. However, not looking in the center console of the truck was hard because I was the one driving it! I told him after two days that whatever was in the truck had to come out because it was too tempting to look and I didn't want to ruin whatever surprise he had planned. He ended up taking whatever was in the truck and hide it somewhere in the house.

A few more days had gone by and Jed sent me a text asking me for my Dad's number because he needed to ask him something. If you don't already know, my Dad lives in Florida and when he had come in at the beginning of January for Christmas, Jed was only able to see him once and never had a chance to talk to him without anyone around. So when he asked for Dad's number it definitely had me thinking but I didn't want to get my hopes up because I hate being wrong and I hate being let down. I kept trying to tell myself that the surprise weekend wasn't a surprise proposal even though I really wanted it to be!

Finally, Friday, January 27th had arrived and I left work around noon to go home to get ready for our getaway! As Jed was driving through all these country roads he kept asking me if I had any clue to where we were going and I told him it looked like we were headed to the middle of nowhere! It reminded me of a scene from a scary movie where your vehicle breaks down and you get lost because all you could see were woods and old country roads. When we finally arrived, I still had no idea where we were. We were about two+ hours from home at a place called Primland. If you have never been, I highly recommend you going!

We drove about 10 more minutes to get to the resort to check in and once we reached the resort I was in awe of the beauty of this well-hidden gem! The resort was gorgeous and surrounded by this beautiful golf course and the Blue Ridge Mountains. It was perfect! We finally checked in and got our key to our little cottage and made our way away from the resort to see where we would be staying for the night. We stayed in the most beautiful cottage I had ever seen. The décor was modern but simple and rustic, it was so warm and inviting and had the most beautiful view. The bedroom was huge with the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on and the bathroom was about the same size as our bedroom at home with the largest walk in shower I had ever seen! Not to mention, the view carried through to the bedroom and the bathroom! It was like a little slice of heaven!

After we settled in we got ready and headed to a restaurant at the resort. The restaurant was called the 19th Pub, it was exactly that, a sophisticated Pub. I learned quickly that nothing at this resort was cheap. I can't remember exactly but it was somewhere around $4-$6 for a Michelob Ultra/Budweiser. I couldn't even find anything on the menu cheap to eat! We both ended up ordering a gourmet burger with some fries and had a few beers at the bar. The night was so perfect. We were getting ready to leave and the bartender had told us that if we wanted to take some beer to go we could so we decided to go ahead and get a 4 pack to go!

We got back to our room around 9:30-10pm and I put the beer in the fridge and proceeded to go to the bedroom to put on my pajamas and Jed told him not to change yet and to come sit with him on the couch. He had turned the gas logs on and I sat beside him on the couch for a few minutes. We talked a little about dinner and then it got kind of quiet. He stood up and walked towards the fire and asked me to come join him, so I did. I turned me towards him and asked me if I thought this was the only reason he brought me here and I smiled and told him no, I was hoping not. Jed ended up getting down on one knee and my heart started pounding! He started to say some words but I couldn't exactly understand everything he was saying because he started to cry and then of course I started to cry. I did manage to hear him ask me to be his wife and I of course said YES! When he took the ring out of the box I was completely stunned! I had never seen anything so beautiful in my life! I just remember looking down at it thinking oh my gosh, this is my ring and I get to call this man my fiancé! It was the best moment of my life!

After a few minutes of letting it all sink in, he told me that the only person who knew was my Dad! We spent the next hour facetiming our closest family and friends! It feeling was so surreal! I ended up putting my phone away so that we could spend the rest of the night together and just enjoy being engaged!

We got up the next morning and ordered some of the best room service I've ever had and then made our trip back home. I didn't want our trip to end but it was the most magical night I had ever had. A night I'll never forget!
