So Sam and I have been dating for 8 years with "NO PROPOSAL". We were invited to our best friend's wedding, Shane and Skylar Greene in SB on December 1, 2012. It was a beautiful wedding and we were so happy to be a part of it.
The next day we weren't moving too fast. I am sure drinking and dancing all night long had a lot to do with it. So since we had a late start we didn't make it back to my Mom's house til late afternoon. As soon as we got comfy I started posting pictures on Facebook from the night before. While I was posting away I heard my Mom's roommate telling my Mom about a rumored renovation happening soon to my Dad's Memorial Room on base.
My Mom, who was freaked out about this news, asked me if I wanted to go visit my Dad's room. I told her I was sure she was just overeacting and she had nothing to worry about and could see it next time we were there.
So about an hour later my Mom asked if I would like to accompany her on base to run some errands. I still wasn't feeling up for it but thought why not it was the last day I got to spend with her. Sam, who was feeling under the weather, said he just wanted to stay home and watch the SEC championship game he missed the day before. So off we went!
On our way to the base it started pouring rain outside so my Mom and I knew this wasn't going to be a long trip. After our last stop my Mom mentioned she wanted to drive by to make sure our camper slide-in was still standing after all the rain and wind. We drove by there and saw all was good. After passing the camp storage she persisted on stopping by my Dad's Memorial Room. I told her it's Sunday and nobody ever goes in on a Sunday. Then she finally said the one thing she knew would get me to go. She said let's just stop by so we can say a prayer for your Dad, and I couldn't say no to that.
As soon as we pulled in she pointed out a couple of vehicles in the parking lot. Since I used to work there I knew government vehicles usually stayed there overnight but she wasn't giving up. So we decided to walk up to the front door to see if it was open and to our surprise, it was! We walked straight to my Dad's Memorial Room. When I saw his plaque in front of the room I said, "Hi Dad," and walked right into the conference room. I stopped right away when I saw Sam sitting in the room. I was so confused why he was there and thought to myself how sweet it was of him to meet us to come see my Dad's room, too. Sam stood up and grabbed my hand...and then it hit me....he escorted me back to the entrance of the room where my Dad's plaque was. He then got down on one knee and said to me, "I'm not much for speeches but I love you more than anything in this world and I would be honored if you would be my wife." He then proceeded to say he thought long and hard where to propose and decided he wanted to do it here where my Dad could be a part of it. I, of course, said, "uh yeah!" and burst into tears!! Then Sam proceded to give my dads plaque a high-five. It was the best proposal I could ever imagine. And the best part I didnt see any of it coming.
