 | Tammy and I were going up to Madison Square Garden in NYC to see Maxwell and Jill Scott in concert. I purchased VIP tickets. The concert started at 7pm, I believe. We decided to take the MegaBus (from DC to NY for as low as $1). We've done this before, so no problem. The bus was leaving DC at noon, scheduled to be in NY @ 4pm. We were running a little behind and neither one of us had anything to eat that morning. We arrived at the departure site at noon and the bus pulled off as soon as we got on (we took the last two seats and did not get to sit together). We were up top on a double decker bus. The driver was TERRIBLE...swerving in and out of traffic, stopping to go to the restroom twice. It took forever to get to NY. We were stuck in traffic in NJ for a couple of hours. We arrived in NY around 6:50. By this time, Tammy was starving. Since we had VIP tickets, we were escorted to an area backstage where they fed us (roast beef, potatoes, rolls, etc.). So we did get to eat a little, but by this time, the concert had started, so we ate very little and quickly. They then escorted us to the floor, thru the roped-off area, to row 6-7...GREAT seats. Jill Scott was GREAT and so was Maxwell. Women were throwing their panties onstage to Maxwell...I secretly had to watch my unsuspecting soon-to-be fiancee to make sure she kept her panties on!!!!! After the concert, Tammy was still hungry. I told her I would feed her, but we had reservations to go "somewhere" and we had to be there by 11pm. I had reserved a horse and carriage to take us through Central Park (CP). We took a cab to CP and arrived there approximately 11:00. When the cab drive dropped us off, I called "Tony" (the horse/carriage driver) to let him know we were here. We waited about 5 minutes for him while Tammy was wondering why we: 1) were standing on the corner in NYC in Central Park at 11:00 at night and 2) why we weren't at a restaurant eating somewhere. When the carriage came, we got on and took a leisurely stroll through CP. Tammy thought it was nice, but really wanted to eat. About halfway through, the driver stopped at what was supposed to be a view of the lake...turned out that there was some construction around the lake, so it looked like a construction site. "Why are we stopping?" "I want to get some pictures...come on!" Tammy reluctantly got out. I pulled out a card (so I wouldn't forget everything I wanted to say) and told her I wanted to read something to her. When I opened the card, she noticed the entire left side (inside cover) was written on..."You're going to read ALL THAT?!? I'm HUNGRY, DeVere!" "Calm down...I'm going to feed you...let me do this!" So I proceed to profess my love for her. The look on her face was "that's nice...can we go now?" After I finished pouring out my heart, I got on one knee and proposed. SHE SAID YES!!! She had NO idea I was going to do that. We took a few pictures and got back in the carriage for the second half of the ride. By this time it was around 12:30. Bus leaves back to DC at 1:00am. We quickly caught a cab (that's another story) and people were in line for the bus. "I'm still hungry, DeVere!" "There's a McDonalds right down the street...let's go there." So we practically ran to McD's and back and had our engagement dinner on the bus ride back. I had a #10 (McNuggets and fries) and she had a filet-o-fish and fries. |
