So that video gives you an idea of Michael's point of view of the Proposal day.....below is my take, up to and including the epic fall to the floor ;)
....So it was a Friday morning like any other. I didn't have school on Fridays so I knew I'd be able to sleep in a little bit. Michael got up at his usual 7:15am alarm and got ready for work while I slept in. At 8am he kissed me goodbye and left for work (or so I thought...but we'll get to that later).
At this time I had a job I really did not enjoy as a sales associate at a store called Cost Plus World Market. I had been scheduled a last minute shift that Friday afternoon, from 12-4pm. I thought it was kind of bizarre that they would a) add a shift to my schedule last minute, and b) have it only be a four hour shift. Usually the shifts there were either five or eight hours. Despite those two oddities, I went with it. Hey, weirder things have happened right? Besides, I knew my management there could be unpredictable.
So I woke up around 10am to get ready for work, showered, didn't bother to do my hair, slapped on some make-up, bundled up in leggings, jeans, a long sleeve shirt, and my warm fuzzy unshapely Columbia jacket, and headed to work in the sunny yet frosty 30 degree weather. I got to work and felt useless almost immediately. My manager didn't really have any projects for me to work on, and she had enough cashiers already. She kept giving me busy work tasks like rearranging end-cap displays to look prettier and things like that. I kept thinking that this was the most pointless shift ever! Finally 4pm came and I was free to clock out. As I was leaving, my manager said in the strangest "I know something that you don't" voice, "Have a GREAT day!" This was another oddity I chose to ignore.
I got in my Mustang and drove home, parked in my usual parking spot outside the apartment, and went up the two flights of stairs. I got to our door and stopped short as I saw a post-it note stuck on the door. It read: I thought I'd do something sweet for you to come home to. But first a word to the wise, you must follow these clues swiftly, if you want to find your 'rosy' surprise. First clue: It won't start out too tough, to find it, look where we go when our hamper is full enough. As I opened the front door after reading that, I was thinking how sweet it was that he had come home on his lunch break to leave me a surprise! I couldn't wait to call him at work and thank him! I wasn't suspicious of anything because my amazing fiance has planned several little surprises before, usually resulting in flowers for me :)
So, I went to our laundry room just inside the front door where I found another post-it which read: Woohoo you found it, you see how this goes? But I wont make it that easy. The next clues, you'll have to think to find those. So pay attention, maybe take some notes, to find your next clue, look where we keep our warm winter coats. So I walk to our coat closet in the front hall, giggling the whole time. There I found a post-it reading: You're doing great baby, almost half way there. I hope this little gesture shows you just how much I care. To find your next clue, follow your nose and take a good sniff, I use this 'spicy' guy often, my handy new Christmas gift. So now I walk to the spice rack in the kitchen, still giggling, where I find yet another note: Good job! You're 3 for 3! By the end of this you'll really be smiling, that I guarantee. Next up, your not-so-secret hiding spot. But next Christmas, don't tell me the place, where you'll keep my presents. Not that I'll peek, but just in case. So then I head to our 2nd bedroom's closet, where I had accidentally told him that's where I had been hiding the Christmas presents. On the door of the closet was yet another note! I'm thinking, how many notes are there???? It reads: You're so close now. Remember our first date Fondue? I knew back then just how much I could love you. So time to wrap this up, I used one of my presents if you recall. Now it's time to use one of yours and it's hanging on our bedroom wall. I knew he was referring to the awesome Beatles painting he had gotten me for Christmas. So i went back to our bedroom and found that clue. One last clue baby, to find my special hiding place. To find the pit stop for your 'amazing race'.So go and check the mail, there your surprise will be. But when you venture out there, dont forget your mailbox key. Giggling again, I ran to the front door, put my shoes on, and went back downstairs, across the parking lot, to our mailbox. I opened it, excited to see what my surprise was. It was a beautiful red rose, along with another note! This final one read: I love you! So much! Call me at work when you get inside.
I was so excited to get back inside and call him and thank him for the awesome surprise and tell him how much I loved him! I wanted to ask him how he'd had time to do all of that on his lunch break!
So I walked back inside, took off my shoes, and walked the few steps to the counter where I knew I had left my phone. In one single split second, the hairs on the back of my neck raised, I glanced up as I rounded the corner to the living room, and SCREAMED as loud as I ever have in my life, and then almost fainted. I dropped to the ground, as I'm pretty sure my legs had given out. In that instant I had never been more scared or confused or excited. I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure it was Michael's dad Sal who I saw first. Somehow, impossibly, in the 3 minutes it had taken me to go outside and retrieve my rose out of the mailbox, my entire family and Michael's entire family had appeared in my living room. The same one I had just been in minutes ago that had been EMPTY. I was overcome with about a gazillion emotions and questions all at once. How? Why? Where...? Once I gained an ounce or two of composure again, my first thought was to run to Michael's family to hug them, as we hadn't seen them in several months and I missed them like crazy!!! But before I could run to them, I realized Michael was pulling me to him. He had appeared behind me out of nowhere holding a bouquet of flowers! Before I could really register what was happening, Michael was facing me telling me how much he loved me (to be honest, I was so bewildered still that I really didn't catch all that he said hehe), and before I knew it, he was down on one knee holding out this gorgeous ring and asking me to be his wife! And naturally, I said "of course!"
Thus the hugs and kisses and tears commenced and we had a great weekend full of celebration and family!!!
