Steve and I both had the same idea this Valentine's Day -- we are single, let's get a group of friends together and lets go out!! I remember getting ready to go out that night with one of my best friends Charley Lovelady and actually telling her that cupid was going to strike me and I was going to meet my soul-mate! I only thought I was joking!
One of the girls I was with, Caroline, played on my intramural basketball team at the time and was friends with Steve. Steve said he noticed Caroline and wanted to go say hi and said he saw me and thought I was really cute. I honestly do not remember talking to Steve at that moment. The first moment I remember Steve, my very first memory... was when the band played Salt n' Pepper "Push It" and Steve started dancing on me. I was a little freaked out but since Caroline knew the guy I thought he must be okay.
After that night I didn't really think Steve was trying to make a move on me or anything. Although when he showed up at our next intramural basketball game to cheer us on, I started getting the hint. I can remember him coming up to talk to me after the game and me (not knowing he was there to watch me) kind of blowing him off to run over and talk to my brother who was there. It wasn't until a few days later when I got a Facebook message from Steve telling me "I played good, and looked good playing" that I really knew he was interested. He asked for my number and ended up coming over one night just to hangout. We talked on my couch for HOURS about me being in Africa, God, my mom passing away from cancer and his dad winning the battle of it, and every other topic under the sun.
When Steve left that night I told my roommates I was going to marry him. I knew he was the one. Emily and Keli (My two best friends in the world) just laughed and probably don't even remember me saying that. I had never even had a boyfriend before so they just brushed off what I had said! It has taken a long windy road to get Steve and I where we are today, but I wouldn't change one single pit stop, bump or swerve on our journey. |
