Bride

For me, the proposal had to be perfect. It needed to be a complete surprise so I racked my brain as to how I was going to pull this feat off. Where would I go, how would I do it, how could I keep it a secret. Finally, I decided that my best option would be to trick Sarah into thinking we were going to do something else (she is super gullible, hehe, love you hun. ) So, I told Sarah that we were going to go down to San Diego and visit my Grandmother who she has not met, however; Grandma was still at home in Colorado. The day of the proposal needed to be a day to be remembered, so we first went for a walk around the marina by our hotel. After eating and our walk we decided that the weather was perfect and it would be great to go to Coronado and walk along the beach. Once we were done, we would get fish tacos (a favorite of Sarah's). So we drove down to the beach and started walking along the water hand in hand enjoying the sun. Now, this entire time, I have the ring with me so I can pull it out when it is needed, but I had to make sure Sarah did not notice it. As we are walking along, Sarah starts to notice different shells in the sand and we start collecting them. We then noticed sand dollars that were in great shape and Sarah got super excited after we found 3 or 4 of them and said "this is the greatest day ever and I don't see how it could get any better" and gave me a huge hug. You have no idea how hard it was to not say, "Oh Really, then would this make it better" and get down on one knee and propose. But no, I had to stick to the plan. So after we were done with the ocean and our lunch we relaxed a bit before heading back out to watch sunset at the cliffs at Torrey Pines. Now, the entire time we are driving I am starting to freak out because it is super cloudy and we won't be able to see sunset. Always with the curveballs. Anyways, we get to the park and find out that they close 15 minutes after it gets dark (I am looking at like 30 minutes to get this proposal done, did I say curveball, I meant knuckleball). We get to the top of the cliffs and start walking down a trail as I am franticly trying to find the perfect spot, and to leave enough time for us to get back out of the park. Finally we come to a spot on the trail where the cliffs opened up in a ravine and you could see the waves. I told Sarah that I wanted to get a picture of her looking out at the ocean (see the attached picture). Once I was done with my picture, I came up behind her, said her name, got down on one knee and turned her around and asked her if she would marry me and spend the rest of my life with me.

I had truly never seen tears of joy until that moment when I slid the ring on Sarah's hand after she said yes and it hit her that she was engaged. It is the happiest moment of my life and I had found a way to make the day better.
