Always the performer, Nathan decided to pull out all the stops and go to Pete’s Halloween party as The Keymaster from Ghostbusters (aka Rick Moranis).  The guests filed in throughout the night; one an old family friend of Nathan’s, whose friendship was rekindled upon moving back to Columbus, IN.

Elizabeth was reluctant to attend the party of friends she barely knew, but Kathryn suggested they make an appearance (mostly to provide interesting stories for the future).  Wanting to prepare her for the worst, Elizabeth told Kathryn about the family friend. “Listen” she warned are she rang the doorbell “Nathan isn’t just the life of the ---“ before she could finish they heard explosive laughter and thunderous stomps racing down the entry way steps. “See, he is the party!” Elizabeth retorted as Nathan bounded into view from down the steps.

Throughout the evening Nathan would indeed take notice of her love of video games. While Kathryn was intrigued by his wild personality. Yet neither one of them would realize the significance of that fateful night in October. It would take a second chance  a few months later to realize just what they had accidentally stumbled upon.

Four months later Kathryn left michigan and moved to Columbus Indiana to live with Elizabeth. As a celebration of her first Friday in town, Elizabeth took Kathryn to a cocktail night at the local bed and breakfast (the location of Nathan and Kathryn’s engagement, the Inn at Irwin Gardens). Being accquainted with the same group of friends, Nathan attended as well.

As the night wore on Nathan and Kathryn bantered about their shared love of bourbon, confided a mutual passion for The Legend of Zelda: the Ocarina of Time, and she reprimanded him for not having a true appreciation of good soccer. All of this, in conjunction with her beauty, ensnared Nathan’s attention.  Kathryn’s attention was taken by his signature charm.

Three nights later, Nathan would ask Elizabeth for Kathryn’s phone number.  As Elizabeth bounded around the room in glee, Kathryn’s phone buzzed on the kitchen countertop.  She picked it up, not knowing Nathan would ask her to dinner; this adventure would be their last first date.
