 | If you ask any of the my friends they'll all tell you i made bets with them about the fact that i would never get married; they wouldn't be lying to you. But on a fateful day in November i made a bet with my father that Nathan would not propose before the end of march. My reasoning for this being that Nathan and i hadn't been together for a year yet and he had said multiple times that he wanted to wait at least two years until he got married/proposed/all that jazz. So when i made this bet, a bottle of bourbon being the stakes, i thought it was a pretty sure fire way to get a free bottle. When we started talking about marriage i even made sure Nathan knew there was a specific time line he was not permitted to violate (yes, bourbon is important, a proposal can wait!) So when Nathan told me of a cocktail night on a Saturday randomly in February, i thought nothing of it (i mean a cocktail night on Saturday is odd but i figured they were just changing things up a little bit). When my best friend who lived in the same town was being SUPER stubborn about insisting she was too busy to go, i thought nothing of it; i seem to be always dragging her away from homework and such. When Nathan was INSISTENT that we go to this cocktail night and not forget about it i was mildly irritated that there was no leeway to do anything else that evening but figured he was just excited to be doing this kind of thing, it's a good way to see all of our friends and play games. But i was wrong, it was not ordinary cocktail night.
we arrived at the inn, and the innkeeper said she wasn't finished setting up but her husband was helping her so we should go wander around the outside since it was such a nice afternoon. It was my first time actually wandering around the gardens of this historic inn, and as we wandered around the terraces i thought to myself "this would be a really nice place to have a wedding. i like the unique chair set up, it would be beautiful in may..." and i followed Nathan up to the tea house. Nathan knows that if it involves tea i will be all over it so i naturally was intrigued when he informed of of the tea house at the top of the gardens. So i was standing there imagining what it would be like to have tea out here looking at that beautiful house when i noticed Nathan acting a little strange. He was telling me how much he cared for me and before i knew it he was on his knee with the most stunning ring i had ever seen asking me to marry him "let me just say i think you should say yes, i really think you should". As you can all guess i said yes, pretty instantly. It was as we were going down the stairs heading back to the house that he told me some of my closest friends, my family and his family were all here to celebrate with us; that was when the indignant side kicked in.
Well dang it, now i owe my dad a bottle of bourbon.
It was worth it. |
