In our wedding ceremony, everyone will have a part to play. The ceremony unites us as a couple and you to us. The interfaith ceremony will be playful and reverent. Something for everyone!

As you may have noticed, we are a pair of devotees of the Heart as a spiritual path. On this journey we find guidance and help from such spiritual masters as

Jesus, Maharaji, and Amma.

Some may have questions about why we choose to celebrate our marriage on what millions around the world also celebrate as Ganesha's birthday. First, this might be helpful:

"Worship of Ganesha is not worship of an idol, but is a prayer to the Universal energy to imbibe in us the positive qualities Ganesha represents". (http://blog.omved.com/Bhakti/post/The-symbolism-of-Lord-Ganesha.aspx)

The image of an elephant headed boy is significant as a symbol that is also a numenous archetype representing ways to progress along the spiritual path, ways that remove inner and outer obstacles. Symbols and forms for spiritual wisdom teachings were created in ancient times and continue to be created today to protect the original complex meaning from the restrictive nature and vagaries of language. When you google the symbolism of Ganesha, you will find a great variety of meanings for the same features. Yet, the fact of guidance toward right action, speech and thought remains intact.

Our Ganesha statue is replete with symbolism. If you google "Ganesha meaning image", you will be treated to an array of visual aids and interpretations. This site offers a down to earth summary: http://blog.omved.com/Bhakti/post/The-symbolism-of-Lord-Ganesha.aspx

For millions around the world, prayer begins only after first invoking the meaning of Ganesha - mastery of wisdom and intellect that allows us to recognize the One. Although a symbolic image, many have experienced remarkable external and internal events around Ganesha and he takes on a mighty presence in many lives. Powerful synchronicities brought us to Ganesha and continue. It is mysterious and wonderul. We are deeply grateful.

Our wedding ceremony will begin in the morning at 9am (for those who choose to join us) with an invocation and celebration of Ganesha then chanting and meditation. One way to think about the meaning is to consider this invocation: "In what we are about to do, let wisdom be our guide". Then, the community ceremony will commence including readings from a variety of spiritual masters, followed by a return to the Ganesha temple for our vows.
