HAWAII
Maui is our favorite island. We have been there several times in the last 2 years and are often mistaken for Kama'aina (locals). Here is a list of some of things we love about Maui.
THINGS TO DO There are 27 micro climates in Maui and you will experience almost all of them on this trek. The Road to Hana. which includes miles of twisty, turny one lane at times roads that can take upwards of 4 hours to drive, but it is worth it. Reaching Hana is not the goal, but the journey is what makes the trip amazing. Waterfalls, tropical flowers and the occassional wild pig can be seen as you drive up and down this ancient road. There are also amazing stops like banna nut bread stands, fresh coconut candy, views of the coastline that is breathtaking and little towns that have been around for over 2 to 3 centeries. h ttp://www.gohawaii.com/maui/regions-neighborhoods/east-maui/hanaCafe Romantica. It is a little resturant (if you can call it that) on the side of the road to Hana. Hanz (the owner and the chef) along with Lori Lee (His longtime wife) create the most wonderful vegan dishes (yes you heard me right ... vegan) we have ever tasted. He is closed on Fridays to Sundays. http://www.yelp.com/biz/cafe-romantica-hana-2
The Mixed Plate. Orginating when there were sugar can plantations on Maui, the Mixed Plate serves delicious authentic Hawaiian food. You also get a million dollar view and if arrive on time you can hear luau music next door. http://www.alohamixedplate.com
The Surf Goat Dairy. Amazing award winning goat cheese that tastes absolute fabulous with a one of kind flavor. You can also see the little goats or kids run around and head butt each other (hours of entertainment there). http://www.surfinggoatdairy.com/
The Lavender Farm. Nestled in Upcountry. once you will find this gorgeous field full of different shades and hues of purple; you know you have just arrived. You can take a walk around the farm and see and smell all the varieties of lavender available. Once you are done you can go to the shop and buy soap, shampoo, candy and jams made from this beautiful flower. Yes you can eat it. The amazing flower has medicinal purposes and adds a little bite to your buscuit too. http://www.aklmaui.com/default.aspx
Bluewater Rafting Adventures. This is one heck of an adventure. You get to travel on a high speed (I mean very high rate of speed) zodiac with twin 500 horsepower motors from one side of Maui on the other. You get to snorkle in spots that you cannot get to by big flat bottom boats that are quite unique. It is a ride that you have to take at least once, but hang on to the ropes or it may be your last time on the boat. http://www.bluewaterrafting.com/
